Better Safe than Sorry

All work at great heights requires special safety coordination, for the high-altitude workers as well as for the area around the worksite. Berlin-Alexanderplatz has a high density of traffic which prevented any fencing off of the worksite. Therefore, we had to be all the more careful using tools and materials.

For safety of the high-altitude workers, we developed a specific risk assessment in accordance with Health and Safety regulations and Altitec's Environmental policy. These determined a rescue plan upwards and into the sphere. From there, any possible injured parties could have been cared for via the 3 elevators on site.

We reduced the personal protective equipment to the absolutely necessary according to the actual requirement profile, had all tools individually secured to belts, and had our supervisor examine the safety equipment of each worker before he climbed out of the ice gutter. All employees received daily instructions from their operations managers, who also documented in writing all safety coordination measures.
